I wanted to tell people with bad cables to try another computer. My newest and fastest computer i built, which i am currently using, did not pick up the device in my serial port. I would tap the power phone on the phone and no change would happen on the computer. I booted up an old Pentium 3 computer had everything on a USB stick and tried that computer. It worked the first time. Remember the phone appears to be off while flashing. Also on the download screen the status bar is gray. If you were not looking at the screen when you quickly push the phones power button you might miss seeing the change and get frusterated. I am glad i tried another computer b/c i was really pissed for a few hours thinking i bought a bad wire.

Lax: Thanks for that...I don't know why but I hadn't even thought of it. I'm going to put a link to that post in the main thread.
kc311man: If your contacts are stored on the SIM card, it will not. You can just copy them all to the SIM before flashing, and copy them back after. It is a pain to do, but it is very very much worth it. The program OneNand does give you the choice of backing up the firmware you have on your phone...I think its under something "dump" on the main screen. If you have the T809 firmware, then yes, it is possible to revert it back. I have an original T809 file, that has the firmware (95% sure, but it is not tested. I would flash my phone with it) if you don't want to back it up, I can send you this T809 file. The USB cable and COM ports use different kinds of coding to communicate with your phone...thats really all I know about it, but if you want, I would encourage you to try to find a way to flash using the USB cable. As of now, I can't find anyone that has yet. |

thanks for the help...actually I went to Device Manager (Start>Control Panel>System>Hardware>Device Manager) and scrolled down to "Ports (COM & LPT)," right clicked "Communications Port (COM1)" (might be different on your system), and hit Properties. Then go Port Settings>Advanced, and then turn the Receive Buffer and Transmit Buffer to 4 and 6 respectively. It flashed perfectly. If you think you have a bad cable give this a shot...

The only box that will cost $300 that you need is a computer, and seeing as you are posting here, it looks like you already have one. You can buy the cable on E-bay for less then $20. No box is required. |

Wheres The Answer Key?

I was in the process of flashing my t809, and I got to the step where it's downloading the .tfs file, and it gets about 30% done and then it just freezes, and does nothing more. I got a little stupid and unplugged the phone because it hadn't made progress for about an entire day, and now the phone just power cycles. It starts black, shows the SGH-D820 welcome screen, says "charging", and then it starts the cycle all over again, and doesn't stop. I tried to flash it again, but it just got stuck at that same exact point. Anyone know what's going on here?

I loaded up D820XEFF1 and confirmed it still doesn't work with 2gb micro card. I tried a Sandisk and Transcend. Argh! I also tried D820XAFC1.
Anybody have any other ideas? I am determined to make this work with a 2gb card. |

Me Too Again!!! btw.. it would not work at all for me on an older supermicro p3 board... but i did get this far on my new Asus setup. I measured the battery after this problem and it is just over 5 volts. I am currently trying a 120v/9volt wall-adapter to replace the battery. (if you try this be sure you check polarity) I suspect 5 volts might be below operating thresholds... Damn this thing takes a long time!!! I don't think the batteries can hold up that long, but at least I eliminated the voltage drop problem. We shall see. I'm hoping for an answer soon from someone. |

Hey guys,
My life is insane right now (friend died, got back from vacation a few hours ago, work a lot, homework, anything you could think of) so I got like 2 min to write this and read all the posts, I'll go quick. So it seems like more then one of your phones is freezing. I just went through my directions, and compared them to two other sites that have reported around 100 successful flashes, so I don't think they are wrong. Are you all using a brand new 9v battery, on a fully charged phone? Also, could it be your computer that is causing the problem? As long as you don't have any problems, or stop the connection, the flash shouldn't stop half way through...thats really weird. Just give me some more details, and I'll keep looking around for you guys. Hope the flash gets figured out. |

Nwahs, Very sorry to hear about your friend, and appreciate that much more your time to answer.
As I mentioned earlier, I hooked up a universal ac/dc adapter which allows me to choose the voltage and polarity. It conveniently has a 9 volt battery lead coming off the end; (along with multiple end configurations...) I carefully measured the voltage and polarity with my DVOM. (I’m also an electrician...) I even went as far as hacking the end off of a phone charger and assisting the battery terminals with the + lead and the - lead in the respective places to assure that the phone battery would not die. So even with two ac/dc transformers simultaneously in place to assist… I still have the same result. I measured the phone battery voltage again after the flash failure to be sure it is still up to par and it is. I still haven’t tried one more computer. Perhaps this evening I will have time. |
